Fall Break Is Here!

Fall Break starts tomorrow at 11:30! And I get the awesome privilege of being able to spend Saturday through Monday in Washington DC with my whole Teaching Fellows class; it's gonna be a blast!
This week leading up to Fall Break has been a little crazyyy, but I did get some good teaching experience on Monday. My interning teacher was out all day for training so I got the chance to be the teacher for a day :) The class did have a substitute but he sat back and let me do my thing, and the day went really well minus the one student who had to be removed from the classroom (thank you God that the substitute plus one other administrator was there to help with that). So, the week's been interesting, and I'm definitely thankful for a break.
Looking forward to spending the afternoon with my momma tomorrow before leaving for DC bright and early Saturday morning :)

Time to Shine :)

I got to teach my first lesson today! I feel like it went really well overall.
Feelings pre-lesson:
- nervous in general
- classroom management concerns
- having enough time
- hoping the sun would be out
- wondering how having an outside lesson would go

Feelings post-lesson:
- well that could have gone much much worse
- they actually learned something
- they were wild children outside
- headache
- bring extra materials outside with you
- when you have a format for how you want the lesson to go, expect it not to go 100% like you planned it
- wondering how to deal with classroom management outside
- super thankful for an awesome OSTE (onsite teacher) who helped ALOT with the lesson and gave me feedback before and after I taught

So, if you're wondering what I taught on, I was focusing on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study objective of teaching learners how to tell time using shadows created by the sun, AKA: Sundials! I took the class outside to make their sundials with sidewalk chalk, and it was definitely a task for my first lesson (It was Friday AND it rained all week which meant they had not been outside for recess the entire week). I was thrilled to see that the kids were within 30 minutes of the correct time when they guessed the time based on their shadows, and I'm hoping either myself or my OSTE will go into depth a little bit more and review some terms to make sure they fully understand the material.
I'm liking 3rd grade and this school more and more every week. Moment of the day: One of the kids walked in and exclaimed "Ms. Frey! You're here!" and then proceeded to give me a big hug :) God is good, and I seriously can't think of any other calling He could have placed on my life than to teach!

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
